I am an university professor teaching early medieval European (including Roman times Germania libera, Late Antique and Byzantine) archaeology at Frankfurt University, alumnus and visiting professor at Harvard University (Cambridge Mass.), Dumbarton Oaks (Washington DC) and Bulgarian universities (Sofia, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo). Furthermore I was guest lecturer at Warsaw, Prague, Nottingham, Jerusalem Hebrew, New York City, Yale, Venice, Siena Universities and others.
I am the executive editor of the series (since 1996 with 22 vols.):
"Studien zur Archäologie Europas" (first vols. "Studien zur germanischen und slawischen Frühgeschichte") Verlag Dr. Rudolf Habelt GmbH, Bonn.
Currently I am directing the following projects:
1. Excavations of the Roman town, late antique fortress and Merovingian church cemetery of Tarquimpol/Lorraine, France (DECEMPAGI project); partners: Harvard University (M. McCormick), Cologne University (Th. Fischer) and Centre archéologique départémental Bliesbruck (J.-P. Petit) - since 2008
2. Early Medieval strongholds of the Great Moravian principality - archaeological field research program; partner: Slovak Academy of Science: Nitra archaeological institute (co-direction with M. Ruttkay) - since 2006
3. Carolingian times strongholds of the Wilzians (The realm of Dragowit) - Excavations at Potzlow, Pommerania; partner: Greifswald University (co-direction with F. Biermann) - since 2011
4. The Carolingian fiscus of Snellegem near Brugges, Belgium; archaeological field research program; partners: Harvard University (M. McCormick) and Université libre de Bruxelles (D. Tys) - since 2006
